Ooh, okay, maybe I'll try this! I read another of her series and wasn't wild about it — definitely nowhere near what I felt about Murderbot — and it made me leery of trying more of her backlist. I came to 'City Of Bones' via the 'Murderbot Diaries' I'd read each instalment as came out and enjoyed them all. The next one won't be released for another eight month's so I decided to try out Martha Wells' back catalogue. I found 'City Of Bones', released in , two decades before Murderbot, and what a find it. In Wells's new fantasy (The Element of Fire, , not seen), the Ancient Mages nearly destroyed the world with flame and lava a thousand years ago, leaving a vast desert of rock and sand dotted with mysterious jutting Remnants.
